What It Costs to Kit Out a YouTube Setup in India (2026)
Three YouTube starter kits with rupee totals — ₹2,138, ₹8,793 and ₹1,18,638 — from named Indian product pages captured 2 October 2026, and what not to buy first.
What It Costs to Kit Out a YouTube Setup in India (2026)
By Ashok Sachdev, Founder of JustShoot · Published 2 October 2026 · Prices captured 2 October 2026
Short answer: With the phone you already own, a usable starter kit costs ₹2,138 (wired lav mic and tripod). Adding wireless audio and a ring light costs ₹8,793. A full room with a Sony ZV-E10 II kit, wireless mic, softbox and video tripod costs ₹1,18,638. Buy audio first. The camera body comes last, if at all.
Every price below comes from a named product page on the brand's own Indian store, captured on 2 October 2026. Each line gives the exact model, so you can check it yourself. These are the stores' current sale prices; the listed MRP or "compare at" price is in the right-hand column, because Indian camera-gear prices move a lot between sales.
One disclosure first. JustShoot does not sell hardware, and none of the links on this page are affiliate links. We have no commercial relationship with Sony, DJI, BOYA or Digitek. They are here because their Indian stores publish a price you can verify, not because we recommend them over another brand at the same price.
Kit 1: phone-first — ₹2,138
You already own the most important camera. Most recent phones record at least 1080p video, which is enough for YouTube. What phones are bad at is sound, and a phone on a stack of books is bad at framing.
| Item | Model, store | Sale price | Listed MRP / compare-at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wired lavalier mic | BOYA BY-M1, boya-mic.in | ₹939 | ₹1,955 |
| Tripod with phone holder | Digitek DTR 480LW (57-inch), digitek.net.in | ₹1,199 | ₹1,795 |
| Light | A window, facing you | ₹0 | — |
| Total | ₹2,138 |
The BY-M1 is wired, with a long cable, and plugs into a 3.5mm jack. If your phone has only USB-C, budget for an adapter. The light is a window on purpose: daylight from the front is free and better than any light in this price band. Its limit is that you can only shoot during the day.
If you need to film at night, Digitek's LED D300 panel is ₹1,199 on the same store (compare-at ₹2,495), but the listing says "Battery Not Included". Price the batteries before you count it as ₹1,199.
Kit 2: one upgrade — ₹8,793
The upgrade is not a camera. It is wireless audio and a light that does not depend on the time of day.
| Item | Model, store | Sale price | Listed MRP / compare-at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wireless lav mic, two transmitters | BOYA BY-V20 Dual (USB-C receiver), boya-mic.in | ₹3,695 | ₹4,750 |
| Ring light with stand and remote | Digitek DRL 18RT C6, digitek.net.in | ₹3,899 | ₹7,495 |
| Tripod with phone holder | Digitek DTR 480LW, digitek.net.in | ₹1,199 | ₹1,795 |
| Total | ₹8,793 |
Two transmitters matter more than they look. If you ever film a conversation, an interview or a podcast-style video, you need two mics, and buying a single one now means buying again later.
If you walk while you talk — travel, street food, city vlogs — swap the tripod for a phone gimbal. DJI's Osmo Mobile 7 is ₹5,999 on djiindiashop.com (compare-at ₹10,990), which makes the kit ₹13,593.
Not sure whether you are a sit-down channel or a walk-and-talk one yet? The free 90-second creator quiz sorts you into one of five working shapes. The shape decides whether a tripod or a gimbal is the right ₹1,199-to-₹5,999 decision, and it decides most of the next section as well.
If you must buy a camera: the cheapest real step
Between the phone and a mirrorless camera sits a pocket gimbal camera. On 2 October 2026 DJI India listed the Osmo Pocket 3 at ₹35,990 (compare-at ₹59,990) and the Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo at ₹49,990 (compare-at ₹74,990). Both were in stock on that date.
Add the standard Pocket 3 to Kit 2 and the total is ₹44,783. That is a big step up from ₹8,793. Read the next section before you take it.
Kit 3: the full room — ₹1,18,638
This is the kit most "YouTube equipment" lists open with. It is here last on purpose.
| Item | Model, store | Sale price | Listed MRP / compare-at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camera with kit lens | Sony Alpha ZV-E10M2K (16–50mm power zoom), shopatsc.com | ₹96,990 | ₹1,09,990 |
| Wireless mic, two transmitters, 3.5mm | BOYA BY-WM3T-M2 Mini Dual + Case, boya-mic.in | ₹8,150 | ₹9,780 |
| Key light with softbox | Digitek DCL 150 WB with Lantern Softbox, digitek.net.in | ₹8,999 | ₹9,599 |
| Video tripod | Digitek DTR 545VD (65-inch, 8 kg load), digitek.net.in | ₹4,499 | ₹5,995 |
| Total | ₹1,18,638 |
The camera-mic changes from USB-C to 3.5mm because the camera takes a 3.5mm input. Not included, because their price depends on choices this page cannot make for you: memory cards, spare batteries, a light stand if the softbox listing does not include one, and a second lens. The listing does not say whether a stand is in the box, so check before you buy.
For reference, the body-only ZV-E10M2 was ₹87,990 on the same store (MRP ₹99,490). The kit lens adds ₹9,000.
What not to buy first
Kit 3 costs ₹1,09,845 more than Kit 2. That gap is almost entirely the camera, and the question worth asking is what else the same money buys.
We have already priced the people a growing channel hires, each on its own capture date, and ranked them in what an Indian YouTuber should outsource first. We are not recapturing those rates here; the figures below are the ones that page publishes. A straight-cut edit there starts at ₹860 a video and removes 3–6 hours of your work. A thumbnail starts at ₹499.
The division is mine:
| What ₹1,09,845 buys | How many | Hours it returns |
|---|---|---|
| The camera upgrade (Kit 2 → Kit 3) | 1 | 0 |
| Straight-cut edits at ₹860 | ~127 videos | ~380–760 hours |
| Thumbnails at ₹499 | ~220 | ~110–220 hours |
A camera returns no hours. It makes the picture better, and for a talking-head channel in good light, the visible difference from a recent phone is smaller than the price gap suggests. An edit returns hours on every video. At two uploads a week, 127 edits is more than a year of published videos.
The other half of the arithmetic is earnings. Our earnings breakdown puts Indian long-form RPM at roughly ₹40–₹150 per 1,000 monetised views, depending on niche. Divide the kit by that:
| Kit | Break-even at ₹150 RPM | Break-even at ₹40 RPM |
|---|---|---|
| Kit 1, ₹2,138 | ~14,300 views | ~53,500 views |
| Kit 2, ₹8,793 | ~58,600 views | ~2,19,800 views |
| Kit 3, ₹1,18,638 | ~7,90,900 views | ~29,66,000 views |
Those are monetised long-form views, and a new channel is not monetised at all until it meets YouTube's Partner Program thresholds. Kit 3 asks a channel that has not published yet to earn almost eight lakh monetised views at the best RPM in the table before the gear is paid for.
So the order is: audio, then light, then the edit, then the thumbnail, and the camera only when footage quality is the thing holding the channel back. Most new channels have other problems first.
Where the real cost of a video is
Gear is a one-time cost. The cost that repeats every week is time: research, script, shoot, edit, thumbnail and upload. Our hour budget for one video puts it at about 7–13.5 hours. Scripting is one of the largest blocks before the camera even comes out.
That is the half JustShoot works on. It runs the pre-production pipeline — research, script, fact-check, hook, shot list, thumbnail brief and SEO package — in your channel's own voice. The shot list matters here: it tells you what to film, which matters more for a phone-first kit than any accessory.
Pricing, since people ask: Trial ₹0 (7 days, 2 scripts lifetime, no card) · Starter ₹499/mo (3 scripts) · Creator ₹999/mo (7 scripts, most popular) · Pro ₹1999/mo (15 scripts) · Studio custom. That is a fixed number of scripts a month with no rollover, GST included, monthly only. Every plan gets the full pipeline. Details on the pricing page.
If you want the monthly software side priced the same way, our creator tool stack cost breakdown does that with subscriptions instead of hardware.
FAQ
What is the minimum equipment to start a YouTube channel in India? A phone you already own, a wired lavalier mic and a tripod. On 2 October 2026 the BOYA BY-M1 was ₹939 on boya-mic.in and the Digitek DTR 480LW tripod was ₹1,199 on digitek.net.in — ₹2,138 in total, with a window as the light.
Should I buy a camera or a microphone first? A microphone. Bad sound is harder to fix in the edit than average video, and a phone's built-in mic picks up the room as soon as you step back from it. A two-transmitter wireless kit like the BOYA BY-V20 was ₹3,695 on 2 October 2026, about 4% of the ₹96,990 Sony ZV-E10 II kit.
How much does a professional YouTube setup cost in India? Our full-room kit — Sony ZV-E10M2K, BOYA BY-WM3T-M2 wireless mic, Digitek DCL 150 WB softbox light and DTR 545VD tripod — totalled ₹1,18,638 at sale prices on 2 October 2026, before memory cards, batteries and a second lens.
Is a ring light worth it for YouTube? If you film at night or in a room without a front-facing window, yes. The Digitek DRL 18RT C6 with stand and remote was ₹3,899 on 2 October 2026. If you can film facing a window in daylight, start with that and spend the money on audio.
When should a new YouTuber upgrade to a mirrorless camera? When picture quality is the thing holding the channel back, not before. The camera step from our Kit 2 to Kit 3 costs ₹1,09,845 and returns no hours; the same money covers about 127 straight-cut edits at the ₹860 rate in our outsourcing ranking. Take the creator quiz to see which kind of channel you are running first.
